Abstract: Objective To evaluate the effect of the integration of exercise rehabilitation and fracture treatment on postoperative outcome in patients with distal humerus fractures. Methods A total of 2 762 patients with distal humerus fractures were randomly assigned to receive either integrated exercise rehabilitation and fracture treatment(integration group,n=1 401) or traditional rehabilitation(control group,n=1 361).Postoperative complications were observed and curative effects were assessed 2 weeks,1 month and 3 months after operation. Results Patients were followed-up for an average of(30.5±4.8) months(range 13 to 49 months). At 2 weeks,1 month and 3 months after operation, the rates of excellent efficacy in integration group were significantly higher than those in control group(24.3%,46.2% and 66.8% vs 14.3%,22.0% and 39.0%,respectively,P<0.05).Furthermore,the incidence of postoperative complications in integration group was significantly lower than that in control group(10.8% vs 17.8%,P<0.05).Conclusion The integration of exercise rehabilitation and fracture treatment can significantly improve the prognosis, enhance therapeutic effect and reduce the incidence of postoperative complications in patients with distal humerus fractures.
