Abstract: Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of combined detection of c-erbB-2-encoded p185 protein and CA153 in serum and saliva for breast cancer. Methods The salivary and serological levels of P185 were detected by ELISA and CA153 levels were measured by electrochemiluminescence in 35 healthy women,32 women with benign breast lesions and 35 women with breast cancer. The sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy for detecting breast cancer were determined. Results The salivary and serological levels of P185 and CA153 in breast cancer patients were significantly higher than those in healthy controls and benign tumor patients(P<0.05),but no obvious differences in P185 and CA153 levels were observed between healthy controls and benign tumor patients(P>0.05).Salivary detection of P185 and CA153 was less sensitive and more specific than serological detection.Futherfore, combined detection of P185 and CA153 had a higher sensitivity and maintained higher specificity and diagnostic accuracy than the detection of P185 or CA153 alone. Conclusion Combined detection salivary and serological levels of c-erbB-2 protein and CA153 can improve the diagnosis of breast cancer.Salivary detection of c-erbB-2 protein and CA153 may have potential clinical use in patients with breast cancer.
