Abstract: In both translation theory and practice, what is important is to break the cultural barriers and convey the source cultural message faithfully and effectively.A translator should put emphasis not only on translation of words containing notable and distinct cultural characters but also on the understanding of "illocutionary act" if he or she wants the work to be equal or as close as possible to the original version in meaning. This is what we call the pragmatic equivalence in translation.Idiom is the essence of a country’s language and culture.Hence,in idiom translations,it is rather important to try to keep the translation pragmatic equivalence with the mother tongue.
