Abstract: The reconciling translation thoughts closely connected with the Chinese and western philosophies have profound cultural origins. The Chinese traditional nuclear thoughts, namely the unity of man and nature, serve as the anchor. This paper traces the cultural origins of the reconciling translation thoughts in the Chinese and western philosophies and translation studies. The psychological structure and the working mechanism in the Chinese culture, namely, the unity of man and nature, the doctrine of the mean, constitute the base for creating the general principles and the behavioral maxims of the reconciling translation thoughts respectively while those in the western culture,namely,ontology,four-cause hypothesis contribute to the sysmatic science and the norms construction of the reconciling translation thoughts accordingly. The reflections of the reconciling translation thoughts are the harmony of "quality" and "effect" in the light of humanism in the context of Chinese translation studies and the harmony of "effect" and "quality" in the light of purpose in the context of western translation studies.
