Expression of FasL Protein in Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer and Its Relationship with Tumor-infiltrating Lymphocyte Number and Distribution
Abstract:Objective To investigate the possible cause of increased tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte(TIL) number in hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer(HNPCC) compared with sporadic colorectal carcinoma(SCRC).Methods The expression of FasL protein was detected by immunohistochemistry and the number and distribution of TIL were determined in 20 HNPCC specimens,20 SCRC specimens and 20 normal mucosal specimens. Results The positive expression rates of FasL protein were,respectively,30%,70% and 0% in HNPCC,SCRC and normal mucosa, with significant differences among the three tissues(P<0.05).Moreover,the number of TIL in HNPCC was obviously higher than that in SCRC(P<0.05),and the distribution of TIL was negatively correlated with the expression of FasL(r=-0.483,P<0.05).Conclusion Low expression or absence of FasL protein in HNPCC may be the possible cause of increased TIL number and good prognosis compared with SCRC.
