Abstract: Objective To investigate the changes in thyroid function of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(2-DM).Methods The concentrations of free T3(FT3),free T4(FT4),thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH),blood sugar,HbA1c,cholesterol and triglycerides were detected and analyzed in 247 inpatients with 2-DM.Results Thyroid function was normal in 210(85.1%) of 247 patients(group A).Among the other 37(14.9%) patients with thyroid dysfunction,27(10.9%) had subclinical hypothyroidism(group B) and 10(4.1%) had hyperthyroid(group C).The incidence of thyroid dysfunction in female patients was higher than that in male patients(P<0.05).There were no statistical differences in age, disease course,HbA1c,2-hour postprandial blood glucose and triglycerides among the three groups(P>0.05).The levels of fasting blood glucose in group A were higher than those in group C(P<0.05),but no significant differences were observed between group B and group A or group C.The cholesterol levels in group B were higher than those in group C,but no statistical differences were found between group A and group B or group C(P>0.05).Conclusion The incidence of thyroid dysfunction is high and subclinical hypothyroid is predominant in patients with 2-DM,especially in females.
