Abstract: Objective To understand the situation of commonly used drugs, medical devices and storages of rural households in areas of comprehensive-type township hospitals to ensure the safety of family-owned medical devices and drugs, and to provide a reference for rational use of drugs. Methods The combination of simple random sampling and cluster sampling were used to investigate and analyze commonly used drugs, medical devices and their storages in 150 families in areas of 3 comprehensive hospitals in Hunan,Ningxia and Jiangsu provinces. Results The storage rates of commonly used drugs of rural households were cold medicine(82.7%),wound paste(52.0%),cooling oil(35.3%),essential balm(25.3%),antihypertensive(22.0%),iodine tincture(10.0%),diabetes drugs(5.3%) and other drugs(21.3%).The storage rates of medical devices were thermometer(64.0%),cotton swab(56.7%),sphygmomanometer(6.7%),injector(3.3%) and other devices(18.0%).A total of 66.0% of families stored drugs and medical devices in fixed drawers.Only 6.7% of families stored drugs and medical devices in special portable medical kits. Conclusion Rural families have a higher storage rate of household drugs in service areas of comprehensive-type township hospitals, and most drugs are non-prescription drugs. The storage rates of medical devices are not high.Only few rural households have portable medical kits.A lot of rural families place drugs and medical devices randomly. Therefore,it is important to increase the storage rate of portable medical kits for regulatory storages of drugs and devices.
