Abstract:Objective To analyze the efficacy of percutaneous kyphoplasty(PKP) in the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures. Methods The PKP was performed in 62 patients(99 vertebrae) with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures(OVCF).The improvements in visual analogue scale(VAS),Oswesty disability index(ODI),Cobb angle, vertebral bottom edge and central wall height were followed up before operation and at 1 day,1 month and 6 months after operation. Results There were significant differences in VAS score,ODI index,Cobb angle, vertebral bottom edge and central wall height between pre-and postoperative values(P<0.05),but no differences were found among the values at 1 day,1 month and 6 months after operation(P>0.05).Conclusion PKP is a simple, safe and effective procedure, which can relieve pain, maintain vertebral stability, restore vertebral height and improve quality of life in senile patients with OVCF.
