Abstract:Xin(integrity) is the core element of Confucianism moral principles, and its original meaning is the truely open of the inner emotion from inside to outside through yan(speech). To the Confucianism,Xin is not a social external Ethical Principle, but the inherent requirement of the essence of human surviving which lays the existential foundation of integrity. As the dominant virtue of friendship, the significance of Xin lies in the establishment of the mutual acceptance, mutual respect and mutual trust between yourself and others,so as to form the basis of public life and interpersonal relationships.Confucianism opposes the persistence on "promises must be kept and action must be resolute" without the distinguishing right from wrong, and advocates that Xin must be guided by Yi.In contrast, the modern principle on integrity is purely a formal social ethical rule which is external to the human life.So the Xin thonght in Confucianism should not pursue the "modern change" blindly so as to lose its value pursuit and spiritual quality, but should hold on their own so as to ensure the life of self-cultivation.
