Abstract:Both metonymy and anaphora are hot topics in linguistic studies, and an integrated study of the two issues will shed much light on a deeper understanding of each of them.Based on conventional relations, the source domain, target domain and anaphor are explored, aiming to uncover that a conventionality-based metonymic anaphora consists in the co-referential relation between target domain and anaphor, while for the non-conventionality-based metonymic anaphora the establishment of co-reference must be based on blurring conventional reference or/and intensifying certain contexts.
