Abstract: Objective To investigate the secretion patterns of glucagon-like peptide-1(GLP-1) after standard breakfast in patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes. Methods A standard test meal(steamed bread prepared by 100 g of flour) was given to 30 patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes and 10 healthy subjects.Venous blood was drawn before and 30,60,120 and 180 minutes after food intake for blood glucose, insulin and GLP-1(7-36) concentrations. Results After the test meal consumption, the levels of plasma insulin and GLP-1(7-36) amide in patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes were lower than those in healthy subjects(P<0.05).Conclusion Postprandial GLP-1 response is decreased in patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes
