Abstract: Tautology is an ubiquitous phenomenon existing in many languages. All kinds of Chinese nominal tautological constructions have respective syntactic, semantic and pragmatic characteristics. However, their basic component is "NP is NP",which can be monomial, binomial or multinomial, depending on expressional elaboration. Thus Chinese nominal tautological construction shows five kinds of pragmatic patterns namely:de-counter-expectation tautology,"reserved identity" tautology,"irreducible distinction" tautology,"incompatible with analogy" tautology and "unreserved praise" tautology.
