Abstract: With rice starch and acrylamide as raw materials, potassium sulfate/sodium sulfite as initiator, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt and urea as additives, the aqueous solution polymerization method was used to prepare the starch grafted acrylamide polymer flocculant. The influence of the reaction temperature, the initiator concentration, additives concentration on the polymerization product side chain characteristic viscosity was investigated.Meanwhile, the effect of the grafting copolymerization product on the red mud settlement separation was also study. The results showed that the concentration of initiator is 2.22×10-3 mol/L,the concentration of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt is 2.68×10-4 mol/L,urea concentration is 0.133 mol/L,the temperature of 40 ℃,the graft copolymer molecular branch chain characteristic viscosity was more than 1 100 mL/g.Dealing with the red mud slurry, the average settling rate of red mud in initial five minutes is 0.78 m/h,and the supernatant turbidity is 340 NTU.
